To be honest, I think this game is nearing death. The player base is shrinking, and it's shrinking fast. I remember there used to be at least 2 worlds full at all times. I just looked, there was literally nobody in Sal's FC, and the world with the most people in it had like 1050 or something. Tbh, it's running on fumes at this point. Jagex needs to do something, and it needs to do something fast. They fudgeed too hard with a formula that was already perfect(kind of), and now it's just spitting wrong answers.

Even on 07 I have been noticing a decline in players. Now neither World 301 or 302 are full, 301 with about 1950 and 302 with 1500, and the total is normally at 22k people, and when it started in february and march there were about 60-70k people.

Yeah there was a sudden rush in activity with 07 but then it diedd after i hope summer brings back more nerds :eyebrows:

That would be me :box: Except I can't remember my login or password...

Edit: Tis sad to see this game see a decline :/ I loved the fact that it was a medieval MMO that took time and consideration to get far in the game.

Everything has its time. It's not on its last limbs, but I think anybody who doesn't work at Jagex could tell you that it's declining.

Yeah, I hope runescape never dies. I guess Jagex really needed the boost from sof and sgs, cause not as many ppl play anymore. I hope they think of something else that could revive their game. I think they did the right thing updating the graphics of the game, because how can an old looking game compete with all these newer better looking games. I know some people play just for the fun that it creates with its skills and things, but you can't deny the power of the good graphics of games like WoW that really make you feel like you're in the game. I think when something first starts out it has the potential to gather a lot of people like a clan or a game in general, but once the amount of people has peaked it is really hard to gather any more.

The friends chat has lost a lot of players over time. A lot of great memories in that chat... Still there but it could never be like it was a few years ago.

I remember the old days. When you were doing something like training fishing, mining ,etc; people would talk to each other. Nowadays it just seems that everyone is silently grinding away for pointless levels. I always thought Runescape was a dumb grinding game, but it used to have one of the best communities. I quit years ago =(

Yeah I'm one of those who never talks, the other night, I was afk cookin at the cooking range guild the other person there kept saying "hi whatsup" I just said hi and then didn't reply to anything else :P

I used to be quite social, but now, I'm either busy watching a movie/doing something at my desk irl and just to busy to talk. Even when I'm not doing anything else, I have my clannies/good friends on my list who I have known for years who I socialize with. I"d rather PM my one friend who I've had added/still plays 5+ years later that I'm close with than a random chap that I"ll never see again.

Honestly, there is nothing to say to randoms. Sure there is the "my level is blah, ugh ugh this skill stinks/expensive/etc" but, there isn't really any common ground :P

@Tree: discuss?

I miss the memories too, I always enjoyed coming into the chat when I was a noobie. Met lots of great people over the years.

Every game has it's lifespan. Considering how obscure this game is, it has done miraculously well to maintain a playing community for over 10 years. Yes, it's declining, but Jagex simply can't keep up with this outdated gamestyle. Hence changes like EOC were attempted but they weren't done very well.

We're simply outgrowing RS. Hence how an old fansite community like Sals, has barely any 'old' people playing. IIRC, the only person who was on the old Sals Forums and still plays is Sellador.

People in RS are becoming more self centered, 'no xp-waste', and less sociable. GE made people not have to talk.

I may just go have a log in and see what's changed in the past few months.

I had this debate with someone recently, bit there are new players who are loving the game like we did years ago. We're simply outgrowing it.

The active player base is definitely smaller, and I suspect we'll know a lot more about Runescape long-term fortunes a few months after the release of Runescape 3.

Even Mod Mark said that EoC was a mistake.

I think, personally they should try to look for a 2012 server that constantly gets updated. The problem with 07 is that, you like it for a little while, then it starts to get really boring because of the loss of updates. Seriously, I miss the old graphics, but I hate the EoC system. I WANT MY DDS BACK!

Mod Mark has said nothing of the sort.

First Mod Mark =/= Mod MMG.

Secondly MMG has not stated that EoC was a mistake, what he said is that the EoC isn't prefect and still needs some changes and as we have seen these changes are ongoing.

Thirdly, the Einstein quote means it is easy to stay doing the same thing because it works, but it's impossible to improve on something without making some mistakes along the road. What this says is to try something new but don't expect it to work first time round you have to put effort into something to make it work and work well.
