Changing my current carrier and plan to get a good phone when I do. Anyone have any personal experience with either of these and would recommend one or the other?

One has the better build quality. Sense is slightly better than touchwiz. I've heard that the GS4 has some lockups occasionally, even with the processor which is pretty sad.

If I had to choose I'd go with the One.

The GS4 is fugly compared to the One. GS4 has a crapload of features, the majority of which you'll probably not use, but you'll likely get more bang for your buck. If I were you I'd consider waiting for the GS4 Nexus version, although again, HTC One looks better. I'd take a quick look at this to see if one has features you want the other doesn't: http://smartphones.techcrunch.com/compare/427-527/Samsung-Galaxy-S4-vs-HTC-One-2013

I have the S3, which is lovely, and apparently the S4 is even better, but I've heard outstanding reviews on the One too, so that's a tough one for me! I'm going to say, go to a store, and try them out (usually they won't turn on but I more mean how it feels in your hand). If you have friends with either, ask them for a look.

It's tough, I'm probably inclined to say the One, but I wouldn't choose without looking carefully.

Well, seems like the general consensus is the One. Since that's the one I was leaning towards anyways looks like that's what I'm gonna get.

Between those two, I'd recommend the S4. The One has horrible repairability, no mircro SD slot, and no removable battery. The S4 doesn't look as flashy, but it's much more functional and is an offering from a company that isn't currently bleeding senior management. I don't see why anyone choosing between the S4 and the One would go with the One; it's basically an inferior iPhone 5, screen size notwithstanding.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK. YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW.

I get your arguments, but it's definitely not an inferior iPhone :P But then again, I'd probably choose a cheap Android phone over any iOS device, so take that as you will. But style matters, I think. I used to be utilitarian, but the One looks good and has good internals. Besides, there is a reason that Apple decided to go ahead and sue Samsung's ass, and that reason is that they took the iPhone's design and then ripped off all the shizzlety parts :P

Either way you shouldn't get the stock GS4. Get the Nexus version without the icky skin.

Repairability is pretty pointless these days on phones. The most common thing to replace is the screen, and nowadays all the digitizers and LCDs are fused together, making the cost so expensive that you might as well buy a new phone (this has been going on since the iPhone 4).

Yes the S4 has a micro SD slot, but who cares. It comes with 16GB of built in storage then you can expand, sure. HTC One comes with 32 or 64GB built in. So with the S4 you HAVE to buy another card. And I don't know if you've ever had the "opportunity" to deal with how Android handles two SD cards, because it's a fudgeing nightmare.

Removable battery is useful for two things: when you actually buy aftermarket batteries to carry around (lol people actually do this?) or when your phone fudges up and you have to do a battery pull (which should hopefully never happen on a $500 phone). The second can be fixed by holding down Power and Volume Up.

The S4 is also made by Samsung, which has already been in some shady situations: http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/samsung-threatens-to-strand-two-bloggers-in-germany-apologizes-for-misunderstanding/

How is that article relevant? I'm talking about HTC failing and former senior execs telling staff to abandon a sinking ship.

Wasn't exactly a rebuttal, just putting it out there. Yea sure HTC might not be doing too well (the One is selling pretty well though), but Samsung is kinda funky at times.

Just saying, haven't heard of too many other companies pressuring girls into being show girls.

I say this while all the companies are using child labor, but everyone's doing it!

Pretty much all Asian companies have done so one time or another.

I'll stick to my American and Canadian phone companies, then.
