Useless pinned topics

Recommended Posts

As a person who likes to moan.

It appears that this section has a buttload of pinned topics, most of them are a little redundant or at least outdated.

Graphics > Competitions & Discussion

This is my take on what is useful, I've edited some of the questions. Honestly I found the rest to be a little redundant or outdated. Everything other than the Deviant Art thread should be removed with this in it's place. But that is my opinion.

FAQ:

Where can I get one of those sigs that shows my stats?

We are partnered with a website called Runewise that offers those signatures.

Where can I get a sig rotator?

Sites such as UzziSoft offer a signature rotator.

How can I find out what the file size of my signature is?

  • Windows - Right click your image, go to properties. It will give you information on height, width and filesize.
  • Mac - Right click your image file, click Get Info. It will give you information on height, width and filesize.

My signature is over the limit. How can I save it at good quality but low file size?

Advanced image editors can downsize in quality. The best options for viewing are high quality JPEG or PNG filetypes.

Is there a better way to make a request?

You could use this type of form, which gives users a good idea of what to expect. Here is a standard form for a signature.

  • Size
  • Text (size, font face, and color)
  • Main colors
  • Style - What should it be like? Should it be a random abstract thing? Should it be dirty grunge?
  • Images - If there are any images you want on it, you need to provide them.

I looked and it seems to me only this one is outdated (and only because the forum upgrade removed the ImageShack uploader, I suppose there's no point in fixing it seeing as I highly doubt anyone cares about buddykits avatars/signatures nowadays), and there's some missing information in some of the others.

I think it's much more useful to just point out what needs to be changed/added rather than say they're simply outdated and leave the ones among us who know little to nothing about graphics wondering what the hell needs to be changed. :s

Edit: Ninjaed by Zooey lol. Yeah combining these three topics seems like a good idea.

Okay sorry Micael.

The FAQ has outdated links, to tutorials dating back to 2006. You could keep it, but it could do with trimming down and mixing with another topic.

In resources sites, some of the places there are outdated forums, or links to places that have barely anything to use as a resource. The hosting sites are a little outdated. There isn't much to fix on tutorials. But again all of this could be condensed down.

We don't need a topic telling us how to request things. It's just entirely redundant, if there were a lot of requests I'd say it might be more helpful.

http://runescape.sal...ople-from-kits/ This is just a tutorial...It shouldn't really have a sticky at all. I'll write up a decent way to condense it and add it here.

I wouldn't say it's entirely redundant, it's just that a majority of people requesting don't read it. :P

So perhaps we could add something into one topic. I think people would be more likely to read it, if it's only two pinned topics there. I agree that some people might use it, if they would read it. But I'd say those days are long gone. :o

I removed two of the redundant stickies which had been merged into Fatalysm's suggestion (which I put in the FAQ), meaning there are three stickies left: FAQ, DA and the Kit stickies.

If you guys, who are active in the section, has suggestions for other stuff that should be removed or added in (I am clueless about this), feel free to write something up and suggest it in this topic and we will probably follow your advice. :P

It looks a lot better, thanks Yuan!

My next suggestion would be merging that kit tutorial. So we keep the topic but link to it in the FAQ since it doesn't seem to be much use for people anymore. Kits seem to be gone.

So maybe

How do I make the buddykit characters?

We have a topic listed here, regarding how you create the buddykit characters.

Again though, that's just my opinion on the matter. It would be better suited in a tutorial section...but that's long gone :P.

How about re-adding a bit of this section in the old FAQ?

Updated the Photoshop link to point to https://creative.adobe.com/products/photoshop

Where can I get a free version of Photoshop?

Download a trial version from the Adobe Website

Is there any other GFX program that's good but free?

http://gimp.org/ The GNU Image Manipulation Program.

Any comments on that? Fatalysm? Zooey? It sounds good, but I am unsure as to whether or not it would be helpful, partly because this is one of those areas where I am generally clueless.

It seems like it is partially covered in Tutorialized - PhotoShop which was linked under Tutorials, but do we need a separate mention for programs such as Photoshop and Gimp? They are damn common programs to use, but does it warrant a special mention? Artists, voice your opinions! :P

Those questions are pretty common and they are both fairly unique, so yes I would say that warrants addition.

Here are some resource sites you could add as well, if you guys need more links. They're a little more serious than, say, da-font, but they're extremely useful for anyone looking around:

On a different tangent.

Do we need this sticky?

http://runescape.sal...2-name-changes/

It's not been posted in since 2012, and even if it had no real records were kept like that.

EDIT: I also agree with the above. To be honest, I'm not sure how useful having the stickies actually is. I don't oppose adding new things though.

My thoughts are, "If it's a specific type of graphic like those buddykit things, it shouldn't be a thing in the FAQ and if it is, it shouldn't be a big part. If it's helpful to anyone who wants to go in there to find something general, it should be added. To find something specific to the graphics forum but not in a way that only 1 person will use it.

I think we gave it a long discussion and we were on the edge and let it stay, but you are right, that thread is hardly used anymore and I can not think of a time where people last notified the rest about their name change. It has now been unpinned. :P

I will also put in some of the new information from Un0 and Zooey in the FAQ in a few minutes, just to get them updated.
