Sobend Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Seeing as the NFL starts tonight with the Ravens at the Broncos, I thought I would start a football discussion thread. The season is pretty interesting with all of the impressive rookie quarterbacks trying to avoid a sophmore slump, the Ravens trying to win again in a hard division, and many other things that I can't think of (:P). Even though I no longer live in the Philadelphia area my rooting interest is the Eagles. The hiring of coach Chip Kelly was a bit of a surprise and I am a bit skeptical as well. I was actually able to (briefly) talk to big Eagles fan and former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell about this at a book signing and he said it was hit or miss. He's probably right and I'm expecting to see a miss. On the other side of things there is college. I don't have a huge rooting interest so I find this season pretty boring with the exception of Johnny Manziel who is arrogant but at least entertaining. Clemson's win impressed me (maybe they have a shot at a BCS something this year) and Florida State's quarterback also looked good Monday night (against a weak defense but still). Alabama to me as usual looks like the best team but I hope they don't get a three-peat. So go ahead, bash other teams, other people, and those "our football is better" Europeans. (We still love you guys though!) Quote
Leo Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 NFL - Cincinnati. NCAA - Michigan and LSU. I'm no fan of the Ravens but I do find it ridiculous that the defending Super Bowl champions have to open on the road due to 'parking conflicts' with the Orioles. Priorities definitely should've been switched around in this case. Quote
Leo Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 In other news, Riley Cooper got into a little fight with Cary Williams today at some drill or a 7-on-7: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/23492216/riley-cooper-cary-williams-fight-at-eagles-practice To be honest, given what he did and his teammates' opinions after it went viral, something like this was going to happen sooner or later. Quote
Sobend Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 (edited) Fights happen at football practices all of the time. It would be unfair to assume it had something to do with what he said. This whole Riley Cooper thing is way blown out of proportion. It's almost as ridiculous as Paula Deen (sp?), who just admitted she said the n word before and everyone went crying to their mother. He said something when he didn't know video cameras were around and in the heat of a moment. Besides African Americans say that word and cracker all of the time (I realize it is slightly different but that word and cracker are also racial slurs). I agree what he did was dumb but people are acting like he did some atrocity like rape somebody when the only person he needs to apologize to is that security guard. I like Michael Vick's handling of the situation. He seems forgiving, realizing what Cooper did was bad but also blown out of proportion. He also held Williams back during the conflict. Welllll I had to get that out of my system. I'm calling the broncos to win this game by the way. Edited September 5, 2013 by Sobend Quote
Micael Fatia Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 [...]and those "our football is better" Europeans. (We still love you guys though!) Our thread has 300 pages, yours only a couple posts. Pffft. Clearly our football is superior in every way. -.- Jk lol I honestly don't know much about American Football but I find it entertaining to watch even though I don't understand what's happening half of the time. It's impossible for me to watch games often because of my timezone (games start pretty late) but I always try to watch the Superbowl (I've watched the last two). As for a favourite team I remember I had an Oakland Raiders hat when I was a kid (less than 10) and I loved it. Cool name, cool symbol and I like the colours. Yeah I think I'm a Raiders supporter. Leo Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I started Peyton last night. So happy right now. :D Quote
Sobend Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 I was unable to watch it because I didn't feel like hooking my TV up (for some reason a roommate unhooked it). I followed it online and after the first quarter it didn't feel too close. Apparently there was a rain delay...??? This isn't baseball! Quote
Leo Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 And reportedly, Bruno Mars is gonna be doing the halftime show for SB 48: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/07/reports-bruno-mars-to-perform-at-super-bowl-xlviii/ Dibs on Treasure. Quote
Sobend Posted September 7, 2013 Author Posted September 7, 2013 Yuck Bruno Mars for halftime. I don't really watch SB halftime though. Well Miami beat Florida. That's about all that's happened so far. Quote
Leo Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Michigan game tonight was intensely satisfying. The Eminem segment was kinda weird though. Quote
Gary Oak Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) I never found flair in college football :P But I am a 49ers and Colts fan. My cousin is the long snapper for the Colts, so hopefully I get some Colts at 49er tickets here pretty soon :P Anyways, both teams played decent today. 49ers should've played better, but GB SF is always a great game to watch. Colts however... Seriously lost it in the second half. Man, the Raiders stepped up their game. Edit: FYI- If you're a Patriots, Steelers, or Cowboys fan (especially Cowboys), I will; forevermore, hate you. :) Edited September 9, 2013 by Gary Oak Quote
bros before hoes Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 NFL: Titans (Live in Tennessee) Lived in Nashville as a kid and grew up cheering for the Titans. Hopefully we are looking towards a better season that last year (we did get the win against the Steelers yesterday). NCAA: University of Florida (Family team) Since I go to the University of Tennessee, I am definitely a minority as a Gator fan. Especially since the Vol-Gator rivalry is one of the strongest in the SEC. Anyone got any fantasy teams? Quote

My starting lineup this week in the league I consider my most important: Peyton AJ Green Julio Marshawn Lynch Lamar MIller Tony Gonzalez Amendola Reggie Wayne Janikowski Pats def Benched Welker in favour of Amendola cause I'm an idiot, and have a smattering of receivers that could get me points for punt and kick returns when my starters have bye weeks. Also Cincy defense; won my matchup this week by 40+. Quote
Gary Oak Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Holy buckets, Philadelphia. Kelly is definitely improving the Eagles. Being a previous Eagles fan, Kelly was certainly an answer to the help needed to make the Eagles soar a little higher. Let's see how the season goes, but for the first week, well done Kelly. Quote

This is our 4th year my friends and I have done a league together, it gets pretty intense. I also like the 16 team vs a 12 team. It makes sleepers a lot more relevant. I lost my matchup this week by 50+ points. I had a very bad week. Played a guy that had Colin K and Cruz. My lineup: Luck C.J. Spiller David Wilson Chris Johnson (Actually traded Anquan Boldin for Chris. Not my best decision) Julio Jones Steve Smith Kellen Winslow Packers D Personally I think this is one of the best teams I've ever had, I like my RBs but it is looking like it is going to be another hit or miss season. David Wilson killed me on Sunday Night. Quote
Leo Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 The guy who runs mine made it in Yahoo; I'm in 2 NFL.com leagues with friends of mine from high school but I don't pay attention to them much since the drafts were at the same time as when I was seeing Elysium. Quote

I Like Pie739 Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Hello. I never go on this site anymore but just coming back and looking around, I noticed an NFL thread. So I'm just gonna pledge my [Canadian] allegiance to the San Francisco 49ers and leave. Thanks and goodnight. <3 Quote
I Like Pie739 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I live in Vancouver and I was thinking of attending the game too. Would have been a great atmosphere with all of the noise, but disappointing seeing them not play their best and giving the ball away so much~ Quote
bros before hoes Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I'm glad A&M lost. fudge Johnny Football Quote
