Ak-47 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Since my HTC G2 has been bricked(ugh, I done messed up), I want to get a new phone since I don't have insurance on it and don't think I'd get a refund. Are there any cheap, efficient Android phones?(Thinking under $120, used/refurbished). I'd prefer if it had a camera on the face but it's not necessary lol. Thanks! Quote
reepicheep Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Nexus 5 beautiful cheap amazing Also not gonna happen under $120 :P 2 things: are you sure you can't fix your G2? And are you sure you want an android phone for $120? At that price you may as well get a dumbphone because it's likely to be crap otherwise. Quote
Bob-sama Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 How'd you brick it? BTW: Nexus 5 is great, except for the camera. The camera still sucks. I'd know: I have one. I'd also recommend you look at buying it outright at Google's Play Store--so that you have the choice of Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, or others. Grab the 32GB version too--there's no external storage available. Quote
O hai im KAMIL Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 AFAIK any Android phone around that price is going to be crap. If you're open to jumping platforms, then the Nokia Lumia 520 (WP8) is a great choice for a low price. Quote
chaosor Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 My relatives have the Samsung Stratosphere, and they haven't had any problems with it, other than my uncle leaving it in his truck all day on the hottest day of summer, which fried the phone. You could also look at the LG Lucid 2 Quote
Ak-47 Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 How's the Samsung Galaxy Blaze? I'm looking into that - it looks pretty good. I also like the Lumia, but isn't the OS on it very selective when it comes to apps? Quote
O hai im KAMIL Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I also like the Lumia, but isn't the OS on it very selective when it comes to apps? What do you mean? If you're referring to lack of apps, then sure you don't have as many as Android or iOS have but you have all the essentials needed and then some. For example, you can download a GBA emulator from the Windows Store and then sync some GBA ROMs using Skydrive and you've got yourself a pretty sweet setup. Quote

You can get half-decent Android phones in the pricerange--just look for less common models and bid on eBay or look at Craigslist. Low-end phones from 1 year ago will probably be in that price range. 2 year old high-end phones are more easy to get. Your carrier may have some refurbs in decent condition. Otherwise, you can get a Galaxy S2 or the like--depending on your carrier. Decent phone, decent hardware. Battery life sucks, but you can't have it all. Edited December 20, 2013 by Bob-sama Quote

Any reason why it's annoying, or you just dislike the OS? Quote
Bob-sama Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I dislike the Metro interface and the way most Windows Phones have things setup. It's not an interface I find intuitive or particularly flexible. Personally, I'm on an LG Nexus 5 and my old phone was a Galaxy S2. Quote

I also like the Lumia, but isn't the OS on it very selective when it comes to apps? I have the AT&T version of that phone. It's actually not a bad phone. The camera is pretty good for the quality of the phone except at night. I can't speak for much since my phone is rooted and I don't know how well it works on stock but on the couple of times I've used it when it was, i liked it. Especially if it's just a temporary phone I think it'd be fine. You could try and look for unlocked phones on craigslist or something too, just scout them out, that's how I got mine for $100. Perfect condition, not a single scratch but that is just for my case, just trying to prove that phones bought off people aren't always bad. Edited December 23, 2013 by Darkblister4 Quote
reepicheep Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Moto G is what you want. If it's in the price range, I fully support that suggestion. Quote
Sofee Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Moto G is what you want. If it's in the price range, I fully support that suggestion. Yep, Moto G has amazing reviews. Obviously it isn't the fastest phone out there, but it's still good. Quote
Conspicuous Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Moto G is what you want. exactly what this beautiful gentleman said. Or buy a used HTC Desire HD or Samsung Galaxy S1/S2 Quote
