I posted this a while back in the topic about the new website ages back, but I thought I'd bring it up again here to see what you guys think.

The font for the website, to put it bluntly, is bad. It just does not work at all; it's both too small and too illegible, making reading content a hassle. I know you guys were going for a more medieval feel, but I think a plain and simple font would work much better. For example, here's a short snippet from the site using the original font and then Verdana:

so watchu think

I'm not a big fan of the font currently.

I don't notice much of a difference tbh, both look good to me. But I've had to look at the website so much recently I probably just got used to it lol.

I think it's fine, I haven't seen the site too much as I don't use guides anymore, but it hasn't caused too much of a problem for me. Like, ever.

But that's probably because I can read upside-down and backwards text at some of the lower font sizes.

Seriously though, it's fine.

I think the font suits the site well, but it may not be as readable as a generic sans serif font, I'll agree there.

Personally, I'm not a fan either, though I'm pretty strict, it's like helvetica or nothing for me. Perhaps we could ask for something cool, like the option to select from 5 different fonts. Not the hardest thing in the world to do, but a little bit of a pain.

But with 5 different fonts you have 5 fonts for which you have to check whether anything is broken instead of just one.

I think as long as the formatting is done correctly with the style sheets, and the fonts aren't too outrageous it wouldn't be much of a problem. As I mentioned, I'm pretty much a helvetica only sorta person anyway so I'm not really keen on having multiple fonts or the current font. An idea that was swivelled around with Salmoneus was themes for the website but that never really kicked off.

Not that I want to waste my time bringing it up again, but this site was supposed to have an overhaul remember? We were looking at doing more with the website, possibly a different CMS. Bringing more user interactivity and stuff. But none of that is even being talked about anymore from what I've seen.

More people have CMS access/abilities/whatever now so I guess there is a consensus it's not really necessary.

I agree that it looks a little too "toony" idk how to describe it; but a more professional and cleaner font would look better but that's just my opinion

Yeah it doesn't look too professional, but it's a video game fansite so I don't know if it has to be.

I think the entire site could be better personally. I like Fatalysm's site layout ideas (http://runescape.sal...s-realm-design/) way better than what is currently on there and would be interested in helping him change it (which I don't think I have the authority/knowledge/power to do anyway).

However changing the font would be a bit easier than messing with the entire site.

Due to both readability (though I have no major problems with it), and also simply the style of the font, it probably should be changed. I'm not sure if it's worth going for something "fancy", or if going for one of the major web fonts (Verdana as you've used, for example) is a better option. Trial and error, I suppose.

Agreed, Fatalysm's design there is pretty darn sweet. And it wouldn't be too hard to change, either because of the CMS - it's 10,000x easier to change stuff like that now. :cute:

If you guys think the font needs to change, it's a simple fix. I changed to to be more... fantasy-ish, but sometimes simpler is better. :)

I'm actually not a fan of going for the fantasy thing, but that's probably because I'm not really into the genre. I think I've said this before but if I were running a site similar to this I would play off the Runescape nerd stereotype and try to be more humorous.

Anyway, considering we need a new site poll, why not make the poll "Should we keep or change the font"?

I think that the length of the text may make the font seem stretched out, if the guides were tabled a little nicer, the text may be easier to read. An admin needs to adjust the x parameter of the one table to maintain a text block. This font has been on Sal's for years. I think your change is a good one and will make it easier on the eyes.

The font as it is now certainly does bother me enough that I won't use our guides for my remaining quests. Simple font is much better in my opinion over the need to look more fantasy-ish, we have the content of the guides and pictures to cover that :)

I think there needs to be some more discussion on this.

We want poll! I definitely would want the font to change.

Did anybody get the reference I put in the title on the section about the font? Hehe.

Shame nothing was done about this - seems like such an important thing to overlook. Would definitely improve the site's look!

You're an admin now, @lilshu! Wave your magical admin wand.

I find the current font to be hard to read as well.

Most important thing is legibility in my opinion. :)
