Mod Tyran has posted this officially regarding Jagex's standpoint on the Archer Ring situation. Best thing to do is to just stay away until things are resolved. But they seem to be vigilant and are saying they will be able to track down those who abused the problem.

Hi everyone,

We're aware of the incident regarding Archer Rings and have a team working hard around the clock to resolve this.

Please do not engage in the mass trading of this item until further notice. Anyone who is found to be maliciously exploiting this item to gain a deliberate unfair advantage risks having account action taken against them.

Thank you,

The RuneScape Team

Take care

I do not want to open too much discussion about it, it involves that seems to be a duplication glitch of some sort and i know that is taboo conversation. Simply put, it's just good to stay away from archer rings on the Grand Exchange for now. Buy one for personal use but don't go flipping, they may mistake your flip for a scam. I don't want to explain the process as I find it may encourage it rather than raise awareness.

Wow looks like now is the time to buy an archer ring :P

I wonder how long the guy in the picture has until he gets banned.

This resulted in a single account being erroneously given several million Archer Rings. Unfortunately, the player in question chose to profit from this clear mistake, rather than take the responsible route and admit what had happened. Our teams noticed this mistake very quickly, and began taking immediate steps to remove the items.

Wow one person takes advantage and almost ruins it for thousands other.

That secret program seems cool too, nice reimbursement if you will lol.

I think the better question would be why Jagex have started secretly refunding hacked people, and exactly what steps they're taking to curb its effect on the economy.

Yes. I thought this as well. Who knows if this is the first time it has happened? What if the last person to receive compensation in this style was a bit smarter regarding the effect that dropping millions of one item would have on the RS economy and possibly fly under the radar with millions of 'archer rings' in this example.

The guy should have sold a ring every month or so. Never would have been caught and would have steady income for the rest of his days.

Why do people who bug abuse abuse so much that it is obvious they are doing it. You'd be better off doing it slowly and selling them off. Same thing with Durial321, should have just lured some people (although he got a lot of attention if he was going for that).

The massacre is a great example of how 1 person can ruin it for many. It only takes 1 person to go wild and create enough attention to get a lot of people in trouble! Same thing happens in real life! Hah!
