Sobend Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Time is flying by, time to start thinking about retirement folks! Where is a nice place where you would like to spend the end of your life? My ideas: The New England Coastline. Always been fascinated by this strip. Upstate New York. Perhaps settle around a lake and just relax. A large farm out in the midwest. Own a few dogs, not have to deal with any neighbors who I already have trouble standing, etc. Quote
Guitarguy Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 A basement with a computer and air conditioning, regardless of what the surrounding environment is like. I need to finish all those Steam games I've wasted my money on over the years. -.- Quote
Shooter585 Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Probably a rural area or a small town. Or Havana Quote

Egghebrecht Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 South of France Collioure sounds perfect drinking Banyuls in the sun while ogling topless sunning girls all day sounds pretty great to me Quote
William Howard Taft Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I probably won't retire. Or I'll retire so late in life it won't matter. Yeah, I'm one of those. Quote
reepicheep Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I would like a nice, decently sized house in a village away from the main roads, not unlike where I live now, and do whatever I wanted. Maybe get a pet ferret or two. Quote
O hai im KAMIL Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Somewhere warm, preferably an island or some sort. I don't want to spend my remaining days shivering my ass off. Quote
William Howard Taft Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I probably won't retire. Or I'll retire so late in life it won't matter. Yeah, I'm one of those. It's better to go out on top than to be forced out. Well, really, I'll probably go out on top. But I don't intend to retire in the traditional sense. I like Bill Gates' idea of retirement, going around and talking about solving world problems and working with people on solutions. I'd kind of like that, honestly. I just won't be doing it under someone else's payroll. I mean, I already kind of plan on doing that on the State Department's payroll. The freelancing problem solver as an old guy. Quote
Mohorak Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Anywhere with peace, quiet, and a high-speed internet connection. Quote
Micael Fatia Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Truth be told I've never thought about it. I haven't seen enough of the world to be able to say I have a special place I would love to live in when I retire. The Southern parts of Portugal are pretty nice, great beaches, everything's extremely clean and good looking (it's an area that lives off tourism so everything has to be perfect), lot's of fun stuff to do and heaps of tourists. yeah I guess it would be a decente place to live. Centre of Portugal in the forested areas would be nice too, extremely peaceful and the nature close by. I think I'd get bored after a while though, I've never been much of a rural guy. Quote
Nitua Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Will probably end up living some place like where I am right now. Maybe move into a small town so I don't have to drive the gravel roads in the winter (or at all, really, those washboard gravel roads suck). But seriously imagine driving on this: Quote

I'm not sure that's what retirement is about :P Well, in the South it's also about shooting yankees from the veranda sipping a mint julep Quote
Yuanrang Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) Anywhere with peace, quiet, and a high-speed internet connection. I used to think this, but since I recently has started to hate the cold with a passion after 27 bloody years living in a horribly cold country, I want all of the things you mentioned, plus it being a place where the temperature never drops below 5 degrees Celcius. ..... Norway experienced temperatures down to -40 degrees Celsius last night. It is an amazing place to live, but god damn, it gets cold. >.< Edited January 12, 2015 by Yuanrang Quote
Micael Fatia Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 When you retire you should come live in Portugal. If you want to experience what it's like to live in a country that is the exact opposite of yours in all aspects ofc. @ Yuan Quote

Italy is the place you want, not Portugal. Micael Fatia Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) Are you sure because you just described Portugal accurately! And as a bonus we're poor and dumb as heck too. :P Disorganized, messy, hot, with people screaming at you from all sides, either overwhelmingly warm or overwhelmingly angry? Italy is the place you want, not Portugal. I would ideally like to live in a first world country though. Dani I do believe the both of us just got rekd. Edited January 12, 2015 by Micael Fatia Quote

Check. Developed? Check. Life expectancy? 5 hours before you get disembowelled by a cassowary and/or bitten by an uberpoisonous snake Edited January 12, 2015 by Arianna Quote
Yuanrang Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) To be entirely fair, it is easy to say where you want to retire right now, but... I still have quite a few decades to go to get that far, so I guess I will decide as I approach my retirement. :P ....I just hope it is warm, yet not warm enough to give me massive burns as I gave Dani.
