Mounting

I've been thinking about this for a while, and think they should add riding any animal into the game. Like a horse, a bird, whatever you can think of.

 

What do you guys think?

I agree it would be a cool skill to have, although it would be weird to see people riding around on top of bears and stuff.

 

However, Jagex has stated that currently their game engine cannot tolerate mounting of any sort and that we won't likely be seeing this for awhile.

Wouldn't want to see it. I think something that makes Runescape unique is that this doesn't exist, Jagex has even joked about it in the past.

Plus with the short travel distances and quick and cheap teleport methods, I think It'd be wasted development time.

I believe this will inevitably be added to the game one day, i've seen many mmo's do it. Usually takes jagex a long time to get on those types of additions (common mmo game components) so i do not expect it soon, also java is heavily limited, i could only imagine the code that would go in to creating mountable beasts :P

tbh i hope this doesn't become a thing, i mean firstly, for quick travel we have teleports and lodestones, then there's the fact this would make RS go more into the realms of WoW than it it already has done, it needs to be unique to itself and not just go with the flow of other games.

Yeah it would be pointless considering the million other forms of quick travel systems that already exist, many of them free. This would either be highly unused or just feed the economy more stuff that costs 200 mil for novelty.

Where would you use Mounting to? when you got lodestones, teleports and items that teleport you to nearly anywhere you want to go. There isn't any point in releasing something like it

Riding horses or stuff is fun in Assassin's Creed, because it takes awhile to get from point A to point B if you don't have the underground tunnels renovated.

 

I'd say the time would be better spent working on the HTML-5 client or something.
