My brother convinced me to play CS:GO again, so I relented even after giving it up last May. Figured I'd play with him for a bit, when I quit I was ranked Gold Nova 1, so I hopped into a game to get my rank back.. struggled through.. ended up with Silver II.

Good enough reason as any to re-quit haha.

So it looks like this winter interim I'll just be on RS.

dat humblebrag

But... it's S2 :o

....is this actually a feature? How can this possibly be a good way to run a city?! :xd:

"You're voting for the other guy? Drink shizzle! (literally)"

You'd be amazed at how quickly you go full Stalin when the good of your city is at stake.

"Sorry Comrades, we're expanding this road. You have 24 hours to remove yourselves from your homes".

Or when you need to demolish an abandoned house but accidentally hit the one next door

ah, the good old Caesar III times when I needed to reorganise my road layout, swarms of people carrying a sack milling about, complaining about homelessness

Or Transport Tycoon, "hay guys, you don't need this city block, do you, I have to build a train station and you will like it, like it or not"

I found Team Hospital to be far more grim in terms of options you could do to really mess with people getting on your nerves. :xd:

  • 2 weeks later...

Been replaying Divinity original sin with the gee eff during these last weeks

And damn that enhanced edition really does make a great game greater, they learned from the (small) mistakes and corrected them, which is awesome

Also the new tactician mode where the enemies get a bunch of extra tricks and even newer much harder enemies appear is a great addition for people replaying. it keeps you on your toes since you really don't know what they will be up again in this fight. it's great to see an AI use the same tricks as players with efficiency.

I love this game!

Bought Gone Home and Life is Strange from Steam and hnggggg they're good games. Especially LiS. There's lots of controversy and debate over the ending, but I thought it was pretty great. I'm really liking these 'cinematic games'.

Now I'm playing through Bastion, and Bioshock Infinite is up next :D

From what I've heard Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is not actually very good compared to other walking simulators, which is too bad. If you really like that style of game, try The Beginner's Guide. It's a very good one of those. Firewatch and Tacoma are two games that seem to be like it that are coming out soon too so I'm curious about them. I personally appreciated Dear Esther but found it to be too abstract to really enjoy it.

Soon, I will have to pick a new game to play alone, and I am left with 3 choices to begin with:

  • Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
  • The Witcher 3

No idea which to choose. >.<

Just know that Konami managed to fudge things up bigtime stylie with the online component to MGSV, but the offline is still good last I heard. I'd probably pick the Witcher off that list but they're all fantastic.

I am playing through Assassin's Creed 3 at the moment, and I think I will be finishing it soon judging by the completion percentage. While I like that series, I tend to get burned out after I thoroughly complete one, so Black Flag is probably on the bottom on my list. But then I did love the ship part of AC3, and I hear that is massively improved in AC4, so... hard to judge.

As for online stuff, then that is not a concern at all. I only play Single Player games on the side now, since I am playing World of Warcraft again on a far more regular basis. :P

I think it is because Ezio is a stronger character than Connor, while having a sprawling city is a bit more engaging by half-city, half-countryside. It has been okay to get through the game thus far, but it was a bit of a disappointment. I did like the ship combat though. I am not sure on the story though, not quite done with it. Will finish it this weekend. :P

what also irks me is the amount of deaths due to 'random encounters'

wolf 20m from your house you died

random aggro guards who get 20 peeps backup

surprise bobcat

Yeah, guards get help too fast in AC3. Before, you could flashily kill without triggering reinforcements if no one was around, but now patrols suddenly just hear the shots or what not, triggering alert modes. I do not like that. Getting away with murder is just annoying in AC3, but not hard at all.

Wildlife though is not a problem on an XBOX controller. They all die to 2 button presses, one of which is always B (Block). That leaves a guaranteed 33% chance to instakill the wildlife. I think I've only been mauled about... 3ish times by Elks, Bears, Mountain Lions, Bobcats or Wolves. :s

I have that controller

B just blocks and you need to press another button after, which is never the same button, or you still die...

but still my main beef is that you can't enjoy walking around in this game since you always get attacked by something

in revelations I used the quick travel system less than 5 times in total because traversing the city was one the things I enjoyed most in AC

le sigh

Well, yeah I said that the 2-button combo was pretty predictable. I mean... Always press B, then one out of 3 buttons appear on the direction of the screen you got to press with a rather generous window to hammer in the stab. I do not know, for me it is incredibly simple and not much of an issue.

What I feel annoyed by was how you had to unlock fast travel points. It was so horribly boring to traverse those sewers and the underground. :(

Soon, I will have to pick a new game to play alone, and I am left with 3 choices to begin with:

  • Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
  • The Witcher 3

No idea which to choose. >.<

I've heard from my friends that MSGV is a heap of fun but sometimes too grindy (like RS I suppose), and it's easy to clock all the hours into. I found Witcher 3 quite good, but halfway through the game I got sick of the repetitiveness (go to someone to find information, do a favour to get the information, do a favour to do a favour to get the information, which involving slaying stuff, etc.) and I avoided doing the side-quests more. I was amazed with simply how BIG the whole universe was though, and if you're into card games (Gwent) then it's definitely for you. No idea about Assassin's Creed.

Gwent was honestly pretty bad if you're actually looking for a good card game. I pretty quickly found a winning strategy with the Northern Kingdoms deck and rarely lost after that. I had the same experience with the sidequests though.

And yes, MGSV gets mildly repetitive with the sidequests but that's not inherently problematic depending on how into the gameplay you are (and the gameplay is basically what it's got going for it, story wise it's hella meh)

Maybe I hate it more than I did at the time, but I thought AC3 was hot garbage. Connor is such a lame character and the entire story is just not that good. The concept behind it is interesting, but none of the environments lend themselves that well to the whole AC parkour thing. I thought the whole being able to use trees and stuff for the parkour was cool but none of the cities were big or had any tall buildings which I thought was a huge bummer. Regarding your question about AC IV, it's way better than AC3 simply because it does the ship stuff even better and the other stuff around it way better than AC3 ever did. That game disappointed me so much. But then I did play through all of it so I guess take what I say as you will. I'd say Connor is pretty undeniably a wholly uncompelling character though and that's the thing I remember most from that. I really feel like Ezio and co being strong characters benefited AC2/Brohood a ton.

I do not mind grindy games. Most games that are huge and expansive, I tend to try to 100%. I would have been done with AC 3 a long time ago if it was not for the fact that I always pick up every single collectible in those games. MGS V would thus be quite fun even with the grind aspect.

As for card games.. yeah, I like that. Honestly though, I just want to know what the hell happens after the masterpiece that was Witcher 2. :o

As for AC 3... I am not going to spoil much for Eggh, but I liked Haytham better than I liked Connor. There are a few nice concepts in AC3, but it just all fell apart as a whole. The game ends up suffering from a lot of small things. Connor is a pretty forgettable character, but in all fairness, so was Altâir. I did not like Altâir until Revelations, in which he actually became a bit more likeable. Ezio however was a great character, and so were the character gallery in the games he featured in. Not as much with Connor, since the people he has to deal with is mostly Homestead characters (utterly boring), Achilles (not fleshed out at all) and then some random historical figures like Sam Adams, George Washington and so on. The sad part there is that... well.. they are not very well presented, so anyone who is not knowledgeable about US history is not all that brought up to speed about them.

Connor as a character... he is bland and boring, with all the signs of an angsty teenager (though he actually is, and with his background, I find it believeable)... but where Connor falls apart is in the lack of a supporting cast or a setting that can make up for it.

What I liked the most about AC 3 though (still have not found time to finish it, so I can not speak about every part of the story), was the revelation about Haytham once you are done with the prologue as Haytham. I really liked how the game started, it just... did not impress from that point onward. :P

Yeah the lengthy intro is the best part I saw so far

time to try it a bit more now

and figure out how to recruit new "helpers" since the first assassin I got already died the first time I used him since he couldn't hold him against 3 guards...

and figure out how to recruit new "helpers" since the first assassin I got already died the first time I used him since he couldn't hold him against 3 guards...

1: You get more Assassins by clearing the Assassin marks around the city. These are like... "Stop executions" and so on. Once you have cleared all in one sub-zone, you can go back to the Assassin's hideout in that zone to get the quest needed to gain a new follower and a new Assassin ability (Marksman, Assassinate, Distract, Decoy etc). You get 1 through the story (Stephane?), then 2 more in Boston. The other 3 comes from a second city you will visit during the Story.

Oh, and you upgrade them by sending them on missions. Left Bumper + X --> Send them on colony missions for loot and experience until they level up, getting progressively stronger.

If they "Die", they merely turn injured and unusable for missions or ingame for a short period (5 minutes), and then they recover and can be used again. Unlike old games, the recruits do not die in AC 3, they merely get injured.
