The base building mechanics are awesome,

To me the base building mechanics felt like a mod that wasn't fully integrated. That thing needed a way better system to organise workers and stuff. Then again, it's an entirely skippable part of the game so I can't complain too much.

Though yeah, a way to manage workers (and supply lines, because they're an unholy mess right now in my game) would be very nice.

I haven't had that kind of problems yet. :P

I like to keep my settlements small for various reasons - less confusion, less lag and more "realistic". Makes more sense having small settlements rather than huge metroles spread all over the place. Smaller settlements require fewer people so it's not too hard to assign them to do the basic stuff, most annoying thing I've had to do is manually assign beds to all the settlers.

Oh and building stairs to the top of the damn Red Rocket Garage bulding. I made some really awesome at the side of the building that fit perfectly, but for some stupid reason my settlers and companions can't go there. For them the way is still "blocked" even though it really isn't. I've read some people have managed to build fully functional stairs, and that's kind of my goal currently. Without dismantling the Red Rocket junk almost entirely it's rather hard to build a decent player character base, so I wanted to use the roof for that. It'd also function as a companion base so it's crucial for NPCs to be able to climb the stupid stairs. Kind of a bummer.

It's not perfect, but comparatively to Skyrim and NV for example it's a dream. I've always been the type of player who loves decorating player bases with adventure junk, and being able to build stuff in this manner is really big for me. I like to keep things realistic so I won't be buying gigantic towers like so many people love to, I just like to make my bases look a little more personalized. :P

They need to fix the items disappearing bug though, it's rather annoying when stuff goes missing. Most things I don't mind too much, it's a rare occurence so if anything goes missing I allow myself to "cheat" and create a replacement using the console because after all I only lost the item(s) due to a bug. It's more of a nuisance when it's an item not recoverable via console that goes missing. I had the interview newspapers in some table, and they went missing (the three of them). I can't recover them via console, as they appear bugged. Basically your answers get removed from the newspapers entirely and they just have blank spaces with nothing in them.

I feel they did a decent job with the companions too. In Skyrim they're just a massive nuisance to have around, but in FO4 they actually feel like a crucial part of gameplay. It's interesting having them with you during quests so you can see what they have to say about them or their reactions to your choices. Just a bummer it appears they put a lot more effort into some characters than others. Piper and Valentine for example seem to have a lot more to say than most others, and they're not really my favourites. Hancock is awesome, and Deacon amuses me a lot. I really like Codsworth and Curie as well, mostly because they're clearly meant to be British and French respectivelly and it makes them rather unique. :P

Say all you want about the French, but their accent is so darn enticing. And I can't help but laugh at all the British slang and expressions Codsworth and that other robot in GoodN use.

McCready is interesting, Strong is the typical Super Mutant follower and once you've seen one you've seen all. Dogmeat is neat, love what they did with him. He actually wanders around and does dog stuff rather than just being a puppet follower. The "another settlement needs your help" guy annoys me slightly, I'm not certain why. I don't like him that much even though he has a cool outfit, honestly I just try to avoid him as much as possible. I can't even remember his name.

It's a People's House, you capitalist pig

The complex on the right is two floors made entirely of bedrooms; the one on the left has the bar on the ground floor, a lounge on the second, empty space for now on the third, a lounge room and a pseudochapel on the fourth.

Ah, there's also yours truly's hovel (out of view) and a basketball court with a few guns lying around, because hell yeah (postnuclear) murica

You named your character "The People", did you not? :P

Fallout 4 aside, I am 93% done with Metal Gear Solid 5, just needing some mission tasks and such since I got all missions done on S-rank. It was a long (155 hours and counting game), and it had damn fun gameplay. I wish there was more storytelling at places, but I get why they went with that style. Apart from one absolutely unresolved thing that was not broached at the end, I found the ending great and it made me go a bit holy hell.

There were too of them! God damn, that explains that. o.O

Fun game. Now to finish up the last percentages, and then I continue Witcher 3 for the first time on Deathmarch. I have just been too distracted with Overwatch. So. Damn. Fun. :box:

You screwed up your spoiler tag!

I'm so disappointed in the way everything after chapter 1 happened. It's clear there was more there but it got cut for whatever reason. Also RIP Quiet. She was a cool character except for the fact that they dressed her and made her act in the most sexist way possible.

Fixed the tag. There was an "s" too many in the first part.

Anyway...

My issues with it can be summed up as this:

  • 1: I agree on Chapter 2 being lackluster. I liked the Extreme, the Total Stealth and especially the Subsistence missions... but they should not be actual missions in the story, but more like content you unlock after the Chapter, like a bonus reward.
  • 2: That entire deal with Liquid and Psycho Mantis was unnecessarily left as a cliffhanger. They could have just made it so that they left the base without taking the massive Battle Mech with a strain of the English parasite. I can live with them leaving in a slightly different way, but do not have them possess two massive Chekov's Guns that are not used. In fact, what is the point with introducing Liquid anyway when you do not set up the story right?
  • 3: Quiet's obvious fanservice outfit aside, I would have liked her to have a proper conclusion. I felt her entire reveal was a bit messy if you heard the tapes, since that is where the big reveal is spoiled (though it was somewhat obvious). That said, does she survive the end? Pretty silly to not have somewhat of a conclusion as to that, or a hint to it.
  • 4: I felt that a lot of the stuff put in tapes was fun, but for someone too lazy to listen to them, the story would have to be a bit of a mess. I would have liked a lot more to have been through cutscenes or radio calls, as more of a direct interation. That is one of my gripes; very little interaction in general.
  • 5: I also got annoyed by Master Miller, but that is just me. I get the entire blind/dismember torture scarred him, but dear lord how he got painted as an annoying, whiny, paranoid nutjob that rubbed everyone the wrong way, but they still let him be in charge.
  • 6: I got a bit fatigued by all the side missions and such all over. It got a bit repetive in the end. It was fun, but a bit repetive to do the same thing. I guess even more variation would be nice, or introduce randomness into the mix.
  • 7: No clear antagonist(s) hurt the game. I might be used to all of the games having bosses and what not, but only having 2 bosses felt sad (more if you count the Skulls, but... should we? I do not feel like we should. :s). Skullface is not even a boss, and even so, he is hardly even around (or relevant) in the game. I felt that was a huge mistake, especially given some of the casette tapes.
  • 8: No David Hayter. WHY?!

Things that Metal Gear Solid 5 did well:

  • 1: Bridged the gap to Metal Gear: I can buy into the fact that there are two Big Boss' running around, since that at least makes sense for the story in Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 (Relevant comic). I also liked how they set up the entire deal, but they kinda gave it away by having both voiced by Kiefer Southerland. That is the moment when you get David Hayter to do the damn voice of the actual Big Boss. C'mon.
  • 2: Ocelot. It made me like guy, which says a lot after Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2.
  • 3: The gameplay. It was smooth, fun, and what not. You have cool gadgets, mechanics and all that, and it is very enjoyable to play. Especially when going for the Perfect Stealth bonuses or the S-rank, or hell... the bonus you get for never being noticed or leaving a single trace of your existence (Complete Stealth).
  • 4: The Prologue and the first few chapters. It was a damn solid start of a game.
  • 5: Ground Zeroes - It was good, hard to say anything about that. Short and sweet pre-prologue segment.
  • 6: The story segments you did get was awesome, but it was a shame that only a few missions actually had story segments. It got exhausting with a lot of missions just being "Do A to fulfill B, so you can hear about it in a radio call.". I never thought I would say this in a MGS game, but... "More cutscenes, please." :xd:
  • 7: Cinematography, music, graphics and enviroments: Gorgeous.
  • 8: The entire Paz questline. It was... great. Horrifying, but great.
  • 9: The Quiet boss fight was a great hailback to The End, and Sahelantrophus was a pretty cool fight in an open world against a Metal Gear. I liked those fights, but I would have loved more of those boss fights.

It is still a great game to play, I just feel like there were a few areas that strongly deserved polish, continuations or alterations. I gladly spent a lot of hours playing it, and I have enjoyed it quite a bit. :P

I honestly felt the whole thing was a bit contrived to have a tearjerker at the end and they should have really had a proper epilogue for her.

I felt that a lot of the stuff put in tapes was fun, but for someone too lazy to listen to them, the story would have to be a bit of a mess. I would have liked a lot more to have been through cutscenes or radio calls, as more of a direct interation. That is one of my gripes; very little interaction in general.

I got super bored of the tapes like halfway through and only listened to the yellow ones at some point. It's not that I didn't find it interesting, I just didn't want to have to sit still in the chopper while somebody talked at me for minutes when I could be doing a mission. It'd have been nice if they had given us that information in a better way.

I also got annoyed by Master Miller, but that is just me. I get the entire blind/dismember torture scarred him, but dear lord how he got painted as an annoying, whiny, paranoid nutjob that rubbed everyone the wrong way, but they still let him be in charge.

He was a major goosedown. Maybe I'm missing the context from Metal Gear 1/2 (I think he died between those two and MGS1?) but man he was a lame character.

No David Hayter. WHY?!

This one is so weird, especially because Venom Snake has less dialogue as a result of Kiefer Sutherland being more expensive.

Also I get why it happens, but the way Venom Snake slowly turns into kind of a dick hurts my immersion honestly.

That being said, though it's not got the best story of the MGS games it certainly has by far the best gameplay. I say that obviously not having played them but having watched full playthroughs of each of them. I was really pleased with what I got, and thankfully I was done with it before Konami decided to screw up the online portion, not that I interacted with that too much.

I plan to play Ming in EUIV. Quick question: In terms of colonization, is it a viable strategy to send your colonist(s) somewhere, station some units on the province to deal with uprisings, then take back the colonist(s) and rinse and repeat, thus colonizing a large number of provinces at once?

Perhaps, if you have the income to sustain such a strategy (colonies cost exponentially more if you have more colonies than colonists, found it the hard way when seizing colonies from Spain and Portugal at the same time, and found myself with a bottom line of -110 ducats per month WHAT

Once I've established beachheads in varied places (centres of trade, river estuaries, hell yeah trading income), I tend to colonise one cluster at a time so that one 3-infantry unit will cover more than one colony in case natives go berserk, along with 3 boats to take them wherever I want to colonise :D

Iirc, one of the latest expansions deals with native uprisings, in a tradeoff between faster colonisation and calmer natives. I don't have it. :P

I have no expansions because they seem not to do much beyond rearranging the game, at least compared to their price. -.-

I recall in a Ming playthrough long ago that I eventually amassed so much money that I couldn't possibly think of what to do with all of it, so I believe this strategy can work in moderation.

I've noticed that my main concern when establishing colonies isn't exactly increasing the span and profitability of my empire, but screwing everyone else over by blocking them off, so I suppose I'll concern myself only with establishing colonies in such a manner as to trap inland provinces for the long term, albeit doing so may be difficult in southeast Asia. The only issue, I suppose, is preventing Westerners like Portugal from getting good land, because it'll take a while before I could reasonably compete with them for it―of course, I'll leave at least one province open for the sake of westernization.

The one issue with establishing colonies like that as well is that colonies without a colonist grow extremely slowly, further burdening your economy.

Alright, I underestimated the amount of money necessary to sustain this endeavor.

Do not try this strategy.

Hehehehehehe.

Also, you can get cheap expansions if you look around; I got Common Sense for about 5 Euro in lieu of 19...not to mention that Steam sales loom large upon us.

Finished the banner saga 2 (and replayed 1 before right before to get back in the story)

damn, the first episode was great but the second was even better

can't wait for the 3rd and last part in this depressing apocalyptic saga, wonder if I can still 'save the world' after my failure in the end fight of the second part. If that fight could even be won...

if you haven't played them yet do so now, about 10 hours play each episode (and prepare to get your bum kicked)

if you really don't know the game, the banner saga is set in an nordic inspired fantasy setting where the apocalypse is happening now

it's a combination of fleeing with your clan(s) and taking everyday decisions to help your survival (stealing food, taking other refugees with you, ...) combined with tough turn based combat situations

seriously in doubt about buying or not buying the witcher 3, I have the 2 older games but only partially played the first one (quit because their mac "port" sucked ass)

the fact that both ports sucked, which reflects really bad on the studio, and that it is real time makes me doubt it

I prefer my turn based games (our pauzeable)

Well, first of all, I think it reflects more poorly on Mac that developers do not see the value in properly porting games to Mac. You made the choice to play games on an underused OS, so that is the cost you have to pay. Macs have not, and will not, be prioritised by developers as a whole, nor will Linux. :P

As for whether or not Witcher 3 is worth it... well the game is pretty easy and moves damn smooth with a controller. I would say that you ought to play Witcher 2 though a bit to get a feel of whether or not it is worth sticking with it. Witcher 2 is still a great RPG by today's standards, so you could easily just read a quick story synopsis of the first game and jump straight into Witcher 2. I would play Witcher 2 though, it is that good. :P

you completely miss the point

if you sell something make sure it works

if you sell an official mac version and it sucks you suck too

not different from the pc port disaster of the latest arkham game

if the money back system would have existed back then on steam I would have used it

Yeah, but I remember a time when Mac users whined when they got no ports at all. As I see it, Mac users should stop gaming period and not expect companies to port to that particular OS.
