RS screen resolution changes?

Question

I've been gone for a few weeks, and after getting my computer back I've noticed some weird problems.

The area of my RS client is now ~1041x904 by default, compared to 1104x848 previously. Way too tall/thin for some reason.

You see that large black area at the bottom of the RS Client?

I don't know if there has a been a recent update that increased the DPI (pixel density) of runescape.

When trying to play in 1080p, the text and interfaces are almost unreadably small.

The only way to play at a comfortable level is to set my screen resolution to a non-native 1600x900.

However, this seems to cause problems including crashes when attempting to start up RS, and the client prompting me to auto set up graphics again even when I've already done so.

comparisons below

Looking at these two images in the scaled-down preview that sals forum automatically does, you can see that they seem almost identical.

However, the first image is 1920x1080, but the second is 1600x900.

In fact, here is an overlay of the two, with the lower resolution one scaled up to 1920x1080 using Photoshop.

How did you even notice this? Do you measure the client every time it opens?
