Brussels Attacks

Recommended Posts

There has been an attack in Brussels, with bombs at Brussels airport and at (possibly) multiple metro stations, the one confirmed at Maelbeek is very close to the EU HQ.

The news is, obviously, a bit chaotic at the moment. Flights in and out of Brussels are cancelled, Eurostar to Brussels are being stopped (some on the way are being held for security checks), metro has been closed, city is in general shut down. The authorities are asking everyone to stay inside.

The Guardian has a live thread, as does reddit.

After the Paris attacks didn't Brussels go into a multi-day lockdown? Are you expecting the same to happen again now (and with Easter coming up I am not sure how much havok that will have with people going about their day-to-day life)

From what i can find so far theres no claim of responsibility, but alot of us know who is likely to be blamed or speak up eventually.

Seems to be a bit disorganised targetting, possibly a quick retaliation considering recent raids and arrests.

Internet is completely overloaded so do'nt knwo if thsi will get through

the lockdown after the paris attacks wasn't all that big or anything, just a closing hour for the Christmass market and more cops and military on the streets

now it's a real lowkdown, a lockdown after we've arrived at work

no trains, no busses, no metro, no public transport at all

no idea how i'll get home this evening, pretty much everyone in the center of Brussels goes to work by public transport.

everyone is asked to stay indoors

cellphone network is down

internet is barely functional

facebook warning system to tell people that you are okay activated earlier today, facebook messenger is pretty much the most reliable communication system for me now

outside it's all sirens

not a nice time to be in Brussels

Depressing part of quote removed for space constraints.

I hope the initial panic dies down a bit so people can at least relocate to their homes and shore themselves in at home, instead of being trapped in the city.

Again, glad you are okay.
