Sal's Realm Design

Recommended Posts

Going for a bit of a classic touch to this Sal's Realm Design. Colours from the old site with the old runescape logo mixed with the more modern UI of IPS.

Obviously still a work in progress.

This is great IMO. We had a similar discussion a few years ago and we all decided that it would be better to have a variation on the old theme. A new banner where Runescape progresses (similar to the one on the old site) would be good too.

I've decided to go back to the drawing board and have a look at it from the perspective of a designer with coding knowledge and i'm specifically looking at what's makes us marketable and gives us the highest search-ability.

Looking at designing within the golden ratio, this keeps everything looking good and specifically makes content fit properly.

Wordpress has been noted several times as the best seo-friendly CMS platform.

Yoast SEO also seems to intergrate flawlessly with WP.

1920 x 1080 best size screen to design for desktop
1920 / 1.618 (golden ratio) = 1186
1186 now becomes the active width of the website.

So with that being said the active width and height now becomes 1186 x 1080.

1186 x 1080

733 x 667

453 x 412

280 x 255

173 x 158

107 x 98

I wouldn't usually bump a topic like this, but people aren't going to click on it if they don't see I've added anything.

This is where i'm at the moment. I'm working the golden ratio, perfect font sizing and designing for purpose.

Colours aren't permanent, they're just to show what i'm working with, as seen above.

I don't have any knowledge in website design to add to the discussion, just my opinion.

I fully support a move back towards the old feel of the forums.  The modern feel has a place in wikis and reddits, but the forum is itself a little outdated (until some new advancements are made in forums as a whole perhaps?) so I see no reason to try to follow the feel of those different applications.  I loved the warm feeling that the old design had.  And I think this new design Fatalysm is a move in the right direction.

I think if Sal wants to keep this site afloat that we need to focus on the forum and the guides.  The Sal's guides were what originally brought me to this website and I always utilized them even if there were Wikis with huge item/monster databases.  Like the website as a whole, they were unique and friendly while still providing all the information needed. Which came first the forum or the guide?  I imagine the guides brought more users to the forum, but the forum is what kept them here and provided the creators of the guides.  The clan chat in-game still has players involved so surely there's still hope for the website.
