Dust Devil Slaying Guide - Complete!

Recommended Posts

Dust Devils

A Dust Devil is a Level 93 Slayer Monster. You need 65 Slayer to kill it, and must have started the Desert Treasure Quest to access them.

dduq5.png

They are commonly killed, seeing as they drop the high priced Dragon Chainbody.

Dust Devils are located in the Smokey Well, deep in the desert.

How to Get There

Start in the Shantay Pass. Go through the pass, and stop at the Rug Merchant. Pay 200 gold for a ride to Pollivneach. Then run south, and around the sand hump. Proceed north on the opposite side of the hump, and enter the Smokey Well.

Reccomended Equipment, Levels, and Inventory

Equipment: equip4uv.png

  • Face Mask - Necessary, you will take damage in the Smokey Well without it equipped.
  • Dragonhide - May be substituted for Karils. Great offensive range bonus ,with decent defense.
  • Obsidian Cape - Good defense bonus, may be substituted with Lava Cape or Legends Cape.
  • Arrows/Bow - May be substituted for crystal bow. Iron+ arrows reccomended otherwise.
  • Climbing Boots - Rangers Boots are best but Snakeskin Boots also give a cheaper range bonus. Other than that climbers are a good choice.
  • Ring of Wealth - A little luck never hurts! May be substituted for Archers Ring or nothing at all.
  • Dark Gloves -Best range bonus. May be substituted for Black D'Hide Vambrances.
  • Amulet of Glory - Generic amulet, can be replaced with Amulet of Fury or Amulet of Strength.

Inventory: inventory5wy.png

  • Shantay Pass - A must to get into the desert.
  • Coins - Magic Carpet ride fare.
  • Runes - Dropped by Dust devils, i always keep in my inventory for easy pickup.
  • Lobsters - In case you get hurt.

Nature Runes are optional, as you may obtain some battlestaffs or vambrances to alchemize.

Levels:

  • 70+ Ranged.
  • 40+ Defense (Dragonhide)

Location & Map

Once Inside...Ranged

Use one of the two safespots indicated on the maps to range Dust Devils from.

North Safespot Closeup: safespot12gj.png

South Safespot Closeup: safespot23ty.png

Advanced Strategy

For the Northern Safespot, there is a strategy for efficient killing. First, attack the farthest north Dust Devil, and lure him to your safespot. Then, turn on longrange attack style, and attack the more southern Dust Devil. If done correctly, you will have two Dust Devils lined up, ready to slay. Then proceed to kill the one you lured last. When it dies, it will respawn within longranging distance. If you utilize this strategy well, 3 dust devils will be easily slayed... Without leaving your safespot!

It sounds complicated, but once you get used to it you'll mow down Dust Devils with speed that will surprise even yourself!

When out of food, either bank at Nardah using the Thrid Carpet Hub, or sell and re-buy noted items at the general store.

You forgot to write up the melee part of the guide, I can do that while I'm down there if you want.

I prefer not to use melee, as it is a large waste of food.

But i will write that part up now, slipped my mind!

Heres basic items for melee style:

ddg9kq.png

Bring best gloves you have, climbing boots recommended. Don't forget the face mask and use either a dragon scimitar/abbyssal whip and bring a full inv of monkfish excluding a shantay pass and 200gp. Otherwise your going to get creamed.

Do not melee unless its monkfish/sharks/ugthanki kebabs + , and you will appreciate ugthanki kebab drops. Theres also more dust devil locations you need to put on the map.

You don't need to complete Desert Treasure to access them, just start it. Make the name of the quest into a link to the quest guide.

Make a link to this guide at some point.

I have no problems with you using my maps, but I don't feel that the map I made is of the best quality, so I will edit the base map (the one without any labels on it) so that it is of higher standards, and then give you the edited product to add your labels to.

You mentioned the Bones to Peaches Spell, but didn't give any help about how to get it.

I prefer banking in Nardah rather than teleporting to Al Kharid. You can also give yourself another few hp bonus by praying at the statue in one of the buildings.

Here's the map now that I have sorted out all those little things I missed when I originally mapped the dungeon. You can add your little labels to it. How exactly did you manage to get the filesize of your second map to 430k?

basesals4ia.png

Where you mention something like the Mage Training Arena, make a link to it.

You need to add a mention that you can take the Magic Carpet from south Polleiveneach to Nardah, and bank there. It is a lot easier than teleing to Al Kharid every time.

I have that added as a side note, but not many people have that spell ;)

That's exactly what i said...:eyeroll:

Not many people have done that quest...i made my guide for everyone. I use teh noting strategy...buy and sell back at the General Store. I will, however, make that a side note.

READ ABOVE!

Torags Plate and Legs are EQUAL in defense to Dharok's.

Yuo cannot use a helm, so they are INTERCHANGEABLE!

Venom is right, here are the stats for them.

Dharok Plate: Attack: + 0 + 0 + 0 - 30 - 10 Defense: + 122 + 120 + 107 - 6 + 132

Dharok Platelegs: Attack: + 0 + 0 + 0 - 21 - 7 Defense: + 85 + 82 + 83 - 4 + 92

Torag Plate: Attack: + 0 + 0 + 0 - 30 - 10 Defense: + 122 + 120 + 107 - 6 + 132

Torag Platelegs: Attack: + 0 + 0 + 0 - 21 - 7 Defense: + 85 + 82 + 83 - 4 + 92

Do I make myself clear? If you still don't believe me and would like to argue, then go here first. ;)

Good guide, in the North I believe there is also another safe spot, but yours is better. I could post it if you like but I don't think it will be needed.

Inventory: inventorymelee7nn.png

[*]Shantay Pass - A must to get into the desert.

[*]Lobsters - In case you get hurt.

[*]Super Sets - Boosted Stats for longer trips.

[*]Noted Items - Sell and re-buy to the general store on the first map.

The lobsters could be substituted with sharks and swordfish. Also it shouldn't be "incase you get hurt" because you will get hurt if you are meleeing.
