Lesser Demon Slaying Guide

Recommended Posts

Hunting Lesser Demons

Suggested Requirements: Melee - 70 Combat with 50 Defence; Mage - about 40 Mage; Ranged - 40 Ranged.

Lesser Demons are one of the monsters in RuneScape that are killed the most. By far the most popular place for killing these demons is in the Karamja Volcano, but there are other places. This guide will explain where these monsters are outside of the Wilderness and the best way to kill them for all combat types.

Why Kill Lessers?

Well, that's a pretty simple question to answer. They have a low Defence Level and they can drop good items like a Rune Med Helm (chance of getting about 1/200 or with Ring or Wealth 1/150). This may not seem like a huge amount, but if you are on a budget to Range or Mage and want to cover your costs with monster drops then if you use Bronze Arrows or Fire Strike then just the drops of Rune Meds should cover your costs. They are also great xp for people from about 70-100 Combat.

What to bring

What you bring will change whether you are f2p or p2p, but the basic idea of what to bring will stay the same.

Melee

p2pequipmentbonusescircled9pk.pngf2pequipmentbonusescircled9ox.png

What to bring p2p:

Dragon Weapon or Barrows Weapon or Whip - If using Whip bring Excalibur or Dragon Battleaxe for Special Attack

Dragon or Barrows or Rune Armour or Fremennik Helm

Ring of Wealth

Amulet of Glory

Cape (preferably Legends or Obsidian)

Gauntlets

Climbing Boots or Boots of Lightness

What to bring f2p:

Rune Weapon

Rune Armour

Amulet of Strength or Amulet of Power

Cape

Boots

Gloves

Make sure that your melee defence bonuses are about +200 or more (the numbers in the yellow boxes in the screenies)

What to carry

inventory1wx.pngf2pinventorylobs3co.png

p2p:

There is a bank nearby in TzHaar City so you don't need the best sort of food around. I would reccomend at least these kinds of food for certain Defence levels:

50-60: Lobsters or Swordfish

60-70: Salmon

70+: Trout

This is the kind of food that you can use at these defence levels to get around 15-30 minutes of combat between bank runs. The time between runs also depends partly on how lucky or unlucky you are when the Demons swing their arm to attack you.

I also reccomend taking a staff with an unlimited supply of Fire Runes (Fire or Lava Staff) along with some Nature Runes so that you can alch the drops that you get.

f2p

As there is not a bank nearby for f2p, I would reccomend that you are at least 40 Fishing and Cooking so that you can catch Lobsters on the nearby pier in the banana plantation just East of the entrance to the Volcano.

Fish until you have a full inventory of fish and then wait until somebody lights a fire so that you can cook a fish (not normally wait of more than about a minute). If you can't fish Lobsters, Swordfish or Tuna then there is also a General Store just South of the banana plantation that fishers sell their cooked fish to and you can buy. You can also sell the items that the Demons dropped to the shop if you can't Alch them.

Mage

Casting Magic spells on these monsters is a safe way to kill them as at all locations that there are Lessers, there are also places to Mage them from.

What to Wear

p2pmageequipmentbonusescircled.pngf2pmageequipmentmonkrobebonuse.png

p2p

Full Mystic Robes

Amulet of Magic or Amulet of Glory

Elemental Shield or God Book

Cape (preferably a God Cape, Legends or Obsidian)

Staff with an unlimited supply of Fire Runes

Ring of Wealth

f2p

Wizard's Hat

Wizards Robe (Top)

Monk Robe (Bottom)

Amulet of Magic

DragonFire Shield

Cape

Fire Staff

Boots

Gloves

What to Carry

mageinventory2ea.png

About 4 Lobsters incase you accidentally get hit by the Demons

Mind, Chaos, Death or Blood Runes (all if you want)

Enough Air Runes to use up all your Minds, Chaoses, Deaths and Bloods

Nature Runes to Alch Drops

Tips

If you are on a low budget and want to try and make a profit then go to the Port Sarim Rune Shop and buy Mind and Air Runes from there until there are 3000 left in stock, if you leave less than 3000 they will cost too much and you will lose money. Keep hopping Worlds until you have enough Runes.

Information about where to stand so you don't get hit damage will be explained in the Locations section of this guide.

Ranged

Like Mage, Ranging these monsters is a safe way to kill them as at all locations that there are Lessers there are also places to Range them from. At some of the locations there are also places to set up a Dwarf Cannon and hide so you don't get hit damage.

What to Wear

rangedequipmentbonusescircled0.png

All players

Archer Helm (p2p)

The best Dragonhide armour you can wear

The best bow you can wield

Bronze, Iron or Steel Arrows

Amulet of Accuracy or Amulet of Glory (p2p)

Boots

Cape (preferably Legends or Obsidian if p2p)

Ring of Wealth (p2p)

What to Carry

rangedinventory2su.png

About 4 Lobsters incase you accidentally get hit by the Demons

Some Nature Runes

Staff with an unlimited supply of Fire Runes to Alch Drops

Tips

If you are p2p and coming up to one of the major Ranged landmarks (Level 50, 60 or 70), then bring the next kind of Dragonhide armour you can wear with you in your inventory to save a bank trip

Information about where to stand so you don't get hit damage will be explained in the Locations section of this guide.

Locations

Lesser Demons can be found in several different places around RuneScape out of the Wilderness. These places are:

Karamja Volcano

Crandor Isle

Taverly Dungeon

Wizards Tower

In this part of the guide each place that Lesser Demons can be found will be given a breif description of what is there and other information that may help you chose where to kill these monsters.

Karamja Volcano

Karamja Volcano is by far the most popular location to kill Lesser Demons in. There are two areas, one of which you need to complete the Dragon Slayer Quest to access.

The area that you do not need to complete Dragon Slayer to access is by far the most popular of all locations to kill Lessers. There are five spawns, four of which can be Maged or Ranged easily.

Where to stand to Mage or Range

wheretomageandrangefrom2square.png

anotherplacetomageandrangefrom.png

These images show exactly where to stand if you want to Mage or Range in this room.

There is also a space big enough to fit a Dwarf Cannon in (the place to put the Cannon is indicated by a Yellow Circle)

cannonspotpositioncircled5tn.png

If you go North in the dungeon then you will come to a wall that you can open if you have completed the Dragon Slayer Quest. If you go through this wall then you will come to another area with another five Lesser Demons just asking you to kill them. Four of these are South of the Mage and Range spot, while the other one is North of it.

mageandrangespototherroom2squa.png

The Mage and Range spot is indicated by another Yellow Circle.

In this room there is another spot to set up a Cannon (more Yellow Circles)

cannonspototherroompositioncir.png

Crandor Isle

If you carry on North through the dungeon you will come to a rope. Climb it and you will appear on Crandor Isle. Just a short way North are two Lesser Demon spawns that VERY FEW PEOPLE USE AT ALL. If you want a location, not caring about how far from the bank it is or not caring about having other people to talk to then this is the place for you.

The Demons spawn in the Yellow Circles.

spawnsoncrandorspawnpointscirc.png

I am not sure about places to Mage or Range here, but it is a very good place to Melee if you want the xp as you get two whole Demons to yourself rather than just having one in most other locations.

Taverly Dungeon

Taverly Dungeon in my opinion is like a giant cage in the Wizard's Tower that you can walk into. There are five spawns here and all can be Maged or Ranged if they walk into the correct position. Two spawns can from at their spawn point.

Remember to bring Teleport Runes for a quick exit because otherwise it is a long walk back to Falador Bank. Level 5 Agility helps to get over the Crumbling Wall Agility Shortcut just South of Falador West Bank.

To Mage or Range go into Taverly Dungeon, but instead of walking round into the area WITH the Demons you stop when you get to an area with some Black Knights by a fence. Stand beside the fence and Mage or Range from here.

taverlymagespot2ro.png

From the Mage spot to get round to Melee you go through a room of Magic Axes and past some Level 20 Poison Scorpions. Now you put on RUN and cross the bridge past some Level 48 Chaos Dwarves and head North to the Demons. The Dwarves will attack you all the way to the Demons, so once you want to start fighting Lessers, kill the Dwarf that is attacking you and the Demons will automatically attack you.

Wizard's Tower

There is one spawn on the 3rd floor of the Wizard's Tower South of Draynor Village that is caged. This means that you cannot Melee it other than with a Halberd and generally have to use Mage or Ranged. Magic is by far the most popular option and Wind Blast (41 Magic required) is the most comonly used spell. One thing that you can't forget when Maging or Ranging this one is Runes for the Telekinetic Grab spell (33 Magic required) because if you happen to get a Rune Med Helm here you can't just walk in and pick it up off the floor. This location is a multi-combat zone so try to go on a World with more more than one other person.

cagedlesser6zr.png

When Lesser Demons Attack

When Lesser Demons attack, there is a pretty good chance that you will not get hit damage as they have a low Attack Level. When they do hit, they hit damage that is manageable by all as they normally hit 6's or 7's.

When they Attack it looks like they are waving at you.

lesserdemonatking5spawnsintave.png

Summary

So there you have it. You now know how to kill Lesser Demons with all Combat styles whether you are a Member or not and how to make it a profitable time.

Absolutely marvelous, Neo!

Suggestions

--------------------

1. Some people bring god books, such as a book of balance, when they mage. Consider adding that as an alternative to an elemental shield when maging.

2. You might want to consider adding a section about killing the lesser demons in the wilderness. I've done it before and, on worlds with low numbers, your risk of getting PK'ed is quite low. Very, very few people ever go there and the Mage Arena bank isn't too far away.

Again, great job! Cheers! :)

If you've read the Rat Catchers Quest Guide, you'll know that there's no such thing as overdoing it. :)

Pretty Good!

BTW, for F2P Maging.

Tell them to bring Monk Robes bottom. Since Blue Bottom doesn't give any bonuses. And That Monk Robes give Prayer Bonus and Some Defence Bonus!

I like it!

Very, very good point, even though it looks odd. But I guess you're right, it is practical. :)

Awsome guide, I usually fight the lessers on Crandor and fish on karajma. I notice you said not many people train on Crandor lesser demons? Well sometimes theres over five people there fighting to get a lesser. It can be very annoying. But then sometimes I'm there by myself... so I guess it depends on what time of day, what world, and such.

Fremmy Helms added

There are options of d weaps and Legends cape is PREFERABLY

For higher Defence levels you can use lower level food. I have 73 defence and use trout

Lava Staff? It's a staff with an unlimited amount of Fires

The number of runes and arrows are what I happened to have in my bank when taking the screenies.

I have realised that in the p2p Mage screenie I forgot to be wearing Ring of Wealth.

The 5 Lesser spawns you run past when you finish Dragon Slayer were there.

BTW, for F2P Maging.

Kk, I'll sort that out right away.

Very nice job. But I'd suggest using God capes for P2P mages since it give +10 to magic attack and magic defence.

I'll add that, but can't change screenie because I haven't done Mage Arena. (Horrid Wilderness)

Eek, the Wilderness. Are these in the middle of the Lava Maze?

Nice job Neo! Good job of showing melee, mage and range inventory; good job taking screenshots in lesser areas.

This is just an option, but you may want to add something about the nastier, stronger, bigger "brother" of lesser demons... greater demons. They're mainly killed in Wildy.

That is one excellent guide :)

I'm just letting u know that from my experience, its actually better to use a rune baxe than a rune scimmy. Using a baxe is very effective in getting exp.

I also suggest lobbying rather than harpooning especailly if ur cooking and fishing are under lvl 70. U'll end up with more food per pack in less time this way.

But then he'd have to mention the greater demons in Karamja and Entrana. And they involve a whole new strategy that would sully the guide's good focus. It's probably a better idea to leave that off for another guide.
